Bergen Loop

The Bergen Loop is a vital component of the Gateway Tunnel Project that creates one-seat train service from the Pascack Valley, Main, and Bergen Lines into New York Penn Station. The economic impact of one-seat train service into Manhattan from Passaic and Bergen County’s is heavily documented, including a March 2012 report from the United States Government Accountability Office that forecasted an increase in home values of $19,000, a direct result of more efficient local travel and improved access to high-paying jobs in New York City.

Inclusion of the Bergen Loop in the Gateway Tunnel Project is vital to the long-term economic interests of North Jersey and will create jobs, reduce air pollution, and drive redevelopment in our communities.  As it stands, the Bergen Loop is included in preliminary proposals, but construction and funding plans are still to be determined. The North Jersey Rail Coalition will continue to apply pressure to ensure this vital piece of the Gateway Tunnel Project is included.
